Laser Hair Reduction
Got Unwanted Hair?
At New Looks Wellness Spa & Salon we know how annoying it can be to wax, shave, trim, thread, or chemically remove your hair, which is why we offer the most popular and proven method to achieving long-term hair reduction. Since 2004, New Looks Wellness Spa & Salon has been successfully getting rid of unwanted hair for tens of thousands of patients through the use of lasers. Our lasers work by emitting a specialized light that is passed through the skin and preferentially absorbed by the hair follicle. The laser targets the melanin, or color, in the hair follicle which then damages the hair follicle and painlessly removes the hair. Its ability to pass deep into the skin makes our lasers especially effective for larger, deeper, and thicker hairs found in the bikini area, armpits, back, chest, legs, and the male beard. Everyone’s hair grows differently depending on their age, weight, metabolism, hormones, ethnicity, or even medications they may be taking or other unknown factors, but all hair grows in three distinct growth phases or cycles:
*Active Growth Cycle – The Anagen Phase*
This cycle of growth can last up to several years and at any given time, the majority (85%) of our body’s hair is in the anagen phase. During this phase, the hair has an abundance of melanin.
*Regressive Growth Cycle – The Catagen Phase*
This cycle of growth lasts about two weeks, during which the hair stops growing but is not yet shed. About 3-4% of our body’s hair is in this phase at any given time.
*Resting Growth Cycle – The Telogen Phase*
This cycle of growth lasts about 5-7 weeks, at the end of which time the hair falls out and new hair begins to form. Approximately 10% to 12% of our body’s hair is in this growth phase at any one time.
Our lasers most effectively disable the hair that is in the active growth cycle (the anagen phase). It must be noted that because all the hair in the treated area may not be in the anagen phase, more than one laser hair reduction treatment may be necessary to reduce and remove the hair that subsequently enters the active growth cycle. Everyone will need at the minimum 6-8 treatments for good results. While all hair during each treatment is temporarily disabled, not all hair is destroyed. A series of treatments is necessary to allow results to accumulate. After your laser hair reduction treatments it may take up to 6-12 weeks for hair to grow from the base of the follicle to the surface of the skin; therefore, only a portion of your hair is being treated in the proper state with each laser treatment.
Repeat laser hair reduction treatments can be performed as soon as 4-6 weeks apart. Usually at least six treatments will be necessary over the course of a year for longer-lasting results. The face, armpits, and bikini lines are areas that respond fastest to laser hair reduction treatments. The back, arms, and legs usually need more hair reduction treatments over time.
